Ice Storm

I wasn't going to post anything about this, but then I had a look outside and changed my mind.

April 12.  This is what is outside my front door.

Most of that isn't snow.  It's ice.  And the big problem with ice is the sheer weight of it.  It's enough to take down big trees and power lines and is magnified if there is any wind so I imagine I'll be cleaning up tree limbs next week.

But in the meantime, I'm going to simply enjoy looking at it from inside my house because until I have to actually go outside and go somewhere, I think it's rather pretty.

  1. It is rather beautiful, especially since you don't have to be out in it. Beautiful photos, by the way.

    1. Thank you. I think its easier to find something I like about the weather and celebrate that rather than complaining about it. Otherwise, I'd be a wreck by spring.

    1. :) I'm still waiting for the sun but at least it is warmer now. The ice is gone and I have rhubarb coming up in my garden. It might be spring after all.

  3. I think it's rather beautiful too. I almost miss the really big winter storms we used to get, where everything was crystal-white for days afterwards. Snow where I am now just comes in periodic light sprinklings.

    1. hehe - grass is always greener eh? Sometimes, I'd really like just a light sprinkle instead of a blizzard. But yes, when the sun comes out and shines on this, it's pretty spectacular.

  4. I luckily haven't had to deal with an ice storm for years. Hopefully your trees weren't too damaged by the ice.

    1. Thankfully, there was very little damage. One tree took a big hit, but we were planning to take it down anyway. It'll be firewood for next winter.

  5. Oh, my goodness! We had a little snow over the weekend, and I was fussing about that. I can't believe the ice you received. I hope you stay safe while you're waiting for it to melt.

    1. Thanks for your concern. :) The ice is all gone now - it melted unbelievably fast. Luckily there was very little damage to my trees, except for one that we knew we had to take down anyway. I worked from home that day as a precaution - glad I did as the roads were terrible.

  7. Thanks very much. Yes, the weather has improved greatly in the past week. My grass is now (mostly) green and I'm seriously considering going out to clean out the vegetable garden to get it ready for planting.
